You came home and flipped on the light switch and it hit you…. I’ve got to get this carpet cleaned! We’ve all been there at some point. The next question becomes, how do I go about it? If you have decided to do it yourself there are a few things to know about it that will help.
The two primary types of carpet shampoos are dry and liquid. The two varieties of dry shampoos are powder and foam. Both of these are applied over the surface of the carpet and then vacuumed up. They both act as magnetizers for the debris in the carpet fibers that draws out the dirt normally left behind by vacuuming alone.
The liquid shampoos are more difficult to use and come with a few drawbacks. One of the drawbacks to using a liquid shampoo is that it can leave a sticky residue. The residue that is left behind can create quite a mess if it isn’t rinsed out completely and allowed to dry before walking on it, Another hazard of using liquid carpet shampoo is that mold and mildew can form in the carpeting and the padding underneath the carpet if it is not allowed to dry properly.
